Please note that these books are not necessarily for beginners. The Non-Linear Workbook (Willi-Hans Steeb) 1999. It covers everything, and contains lots of code. It is however not related to trading, and does not contain workable samples. This is a gold mine, but will give headaches to most traders. Neural Smithing (Reeds & Marks) Sep 1999. Excellent compilation on feed-forward MLPs, i.e. most popular neural net architectures. There is some code available, and it is relatively easy to read. Object-Oriented Neural Networks in C++ (Joey Rogers) 1997. Excellent book. The code is easy to read for C++ programmers. The book covers backpropragation (single pattern, and epoch based), a Kohonen, and B.A.M. architectures. Knowledge of C++ is required, but this is one of the best books for neural net apprentice-developers.
There is also a good book from T. Masters if only you can still find it. The popular "Practical Neural Network Recipes in C++" has been out-of-print for quite some time now.
Neural, Novel & Hybrid techniques for Time Series Predictions (T.Masters) 1996.
Rocket Science for Traders (John Ehlers)
Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition (C.Bishop) 1995-1999. Very comprehensive, and very mathematical. Probably the best foundation book on the topic
Expert Trading Systems (J.R. Wolberg) 1999 This book covers an interesting alternative to neural nets called kernel regression.
Self Organizing Maps (T. Kohonen) Third Edition 2001.
When it comes to references directly related to trading, most books are verbose, and the valuable content is generally microscopic... Look for reading material from Jeffrey Katz like the Encyclopedia of Trading Strategies.... could go deeper, but already better than most
Ivorix Advanced techniques for professional traders FinancialTimingModels Outstanding neural net models ! Neural101 A promising new site where to share and find info and code to better trade using neural nets RG Software: Excellent new live neural net platform just been released Neil Fraser's page (Carleton University, Canada) EasyNN32 : Very good shareware from Steve Wolstenholme that puts a lot of commercial software to shame
Commercial products are mainstream, hence may not always be suitable to advanced traders
Neuro Solutions This is probably the most
comprehensive neural net environment, but also fairly pricey.
Quote.com (fantastic live quote Java applet). First feed supported by the NeuroShell Day Trader. MarketStream Now compatible feed for NSTrader, and only reliable one since Omega Global Server support has been abandoned. Omega does not even support it any more! BigFoot selected by CBS MarketWatch, and for a good reason. DialData A classic. Compatible with all major charting software. Free RealTime Quotes
A number of e-brokers now also give you access to live quotes like for instance E*Trade
The Wavelet Digest (everything and more on wavelets) FEN (Financial Engineering: pretty serious stuff, extensive coverage on VaR) ZDNet (Tons of shareware and reviews)
The list would be too long, so here is a compilation of links: PDP++ A must! It is a UNIX based product, but run smoothly in Windows using the RedHat CygWin utility. Still recommended to have a separate Linux partition or PC, with a large screen, which is likely to be a little clogged with lots of windows.
Here first are two sites I can't simply live without: www.codeproject.com and www.codeguru.com Free Online C / C++ Documentation
